Monday morning, I got on a bus and headed to Merida, Yucatan. I was going to visit a friend from Central- Alvar. He came to Central for a year through the exchange and we taught Spanish labs together! It was awesome to get to travel to a place that was someone's home! He showed me all around and introduced me to the things that were important to see. Also, since he has a car he showed me all parts of town. Where he grew up, his elementary school, his high school, his college, his current job, tons of stuff!
There was a miscommunication one night (spanish-english, multiple people) and we ended up at a not very good restraunt but Alvar told us to go to
the one next door so we went there for desert instead and it was great!
Also went to a delicious Italian restrauant where we could see the city from our balcony window. And to a very cute chocolate coffee shop place. Where I got to see some of the video's he's doing for work. He did one for the doctors at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where there's a heart transplant thing for little kids, it was sad to see, but an awesome story too! It's for the government to put on the televesion in the Yucatan..way to represent Iowa :-)
We got to see dancing in the street one night. Children young and old and lots of people watching the dances. The videos I took didn't turn out very well, but the music was great!
